Our Region

New Zealand offers a broad and diverse range of accessible locations. Our mates around the country provide epic landscapes and strong studio infrastructure so make sure you check out the Regional Film Office of New Zealand to see which region best suits you. Here in Hawke’s Bay everything is within reach. If you need to fly nothing is more than 60minutes aways, if you need to drive, most locations you can be there in less than 90 minutes.

Our filmmakers can be on a mountain one day and by an ocean reef the next. We know how lucky we are – and we are ready to share it with you.

Get in touch today and let us show you around.

Our Regional Film Office represents the province of Hawke’s Bay, Te Matau-a-Māui. Our eastern border is the Pacific Ocean, and to the west we are framed by farmlands and mountain ranges.

The two largest cities in Hawke’s Bay are Napier and Hastings. Smaller provincial towns include Waipukurau and Waipawa, and to the south, Wairoa and Māhia to the north.

Continue further northeast and you will enter the beautiful Tairāwhiti Gisborne province and the East Cape of Aoteroa, New Zealand.

Climate

We enjoy a temperate climate with mildly cold winters and warm summers.

The clear, clean skies of the eastern North Island are renowned – so much so that rockets are launched into space from here! Average summer temperatures are (Dec-Feb) 20º to 30º C (68º – 86º F), and in winter (Jun-Aug) 10º – 15 º C (50º – 59º F).

The annual sunshine hours are 2,200 per annum – some of the highest in the country. In simmer, daylight stretches from about 6:00am to 8.30pm, and in winter from roughly 7:30am to 5:00pm.
